Benefits of being a County Member with Fibers

Benefits of being a Country/International Member

Would you like to be a 'Country' member of Fibres and Fabrics?  What are the benefits of being a member of this wonderful diverse group of Artisans?

Firstly you would receive either by email or snail mail our wonderfully informative newsletter, listing the happenings at Possum Hollow (our current home at the Townsville Show Grounds) and other events happening at Fibers or with our many members.

Secondly you can contribute to our Postcard and ATC swaps.  We also have other challenges, which you would be able to take part in.

Thirdly you would be able to enter your creations into our many exhibitions.  We have several coming up this year, with the wearable art fashion parade in April, and the Townsville Show in July and exhibitions at the Townsville Craft show, and at our local libraries, museums and galleries.

And last but certainly not least, you are welcome to visit us on Wednesdays or any of our many sub groups whilst you are visiting our wonderful city Townsville. Our sub groups are Embroidery, Patchwork, Spinning and Weaving, Creative Arts, Bookies, Sewing for Cancer and Fibres on Saturday.

If this sounds great to you, then just email us at fibersandfabrics@hotmail.com for the membership form, and pay your membership via PayPal, cheque or money order.  Our membership fee is only $20 (AU) a year.

Annual General Meeting

On Wednesday, 10th March 2010, we had a day of meetings upon meetings! Fibres and Fabrics held their well attended AGM first, followed by the normal general meeting and show and tell, followed by a delicious lunch provided by all members, followed by the first meeting of the new committee for the coming year. A full report will come to you in this month's newsletter, so here are a few photos.
Pictured are clockwise from the top left: 1. Janet after receiving her thank-you-for-being-treasurer-roses, President Kathy S and Vice-President Suzanne C. 2. Janet giving her one of her report. 3.The delicious spread. 4.The in-coming committee. Back row L-R: Lyn H, Carol McG, Beryl B, Kathy S, Suzanne C, front row L-R: Suzanne G Annette S and Arlene W. Welcome to the committee AnnetteS and Arlene W and welcome back onto the committee Margaret D (who was away).

There was a big variety of show and tell. Here is a small taste. The seminole patchwork items made by the recent Patchwork Group workshop given by Gai C featured prominantly. The postcards will be added to the postcard album in the Members' Gallery where you can view them.

Craftfest Fibres and Fabrics Display – April 8 – 11

All challenge pieces will be displayed
Embroidery – biscornus
Bookies – Altered Books and ATC’s
Creative – Inchies (that weren’t displayed last year)

Please bring in 5 or 6 of your favourite items that you have made in the last 12 months for selection. Space will determine the number of items shown.
Please print a label on white printer paper - font style – Arial font size 14 Lines centred for each item to be displayed. If you do not have a computer please ask a friend to do this for you.

Example:
Janet Banks
Circle of Life
Altered Book Challenge

All items are to be delivered to the Entertainment Centre before 9am on Wednesday 7 April. Please ensure you nominate someone else to be responsible for your work to be delivered and picked up on Sunday 11 April if you are unable to do so.

This year work will be in a mixed display rather than segregated into individual groupings such as Bookies Table. It is hoped that this will encourage the public to wander.

During the four days of the fair please wear your name badge and Fibres scarf – White or Cream tops and dark bottoms always look professional.

On setup day 7 April all helpers are required to wear closed in shoes and a safety vest (some are available at Fibres)

Any questions about the above please talk to Carol McG, Barb N, Janet B or Suzanne C.

If you're not a member and are tempted to find out more about our group we'd love you to come along. You don't need to join immediately. We welcome visitors for three visits free of membership fees so you can get a feel for what we do and who we are. For details of where we meet and when and what to bring email me, Carol McG, at jungleburra@gmail.com

Whether you live in Townsville or are visiting or would like to be a 'country member', you will find our group to be a friendly welcoming community of crafters and artists covering a wide range of activities. You don't need to be expert at anything. If you're interested, someone with the required skill will be only too pleased to show you what you want to know. If you are an expert at something - we'd love to learn from you!

Welcome!

Welcome to Fibres and Fabrics own blog!

As Fabricator of this blog it's not my intention to replicate the newsletter, which is already the perfect vehicle for informing members about creations and events within the group. My intention is to give non-members, country members and local members an additional insight into what we're doing. Janet's my Back-up Fabricator. Thanks for your support Janet.
