Magnetic Island Crafters visit and show and tell

We had our annual visit with the Magnetic Island Craft group yesterday, this year it was their turn to come over the sea to visit us.  Magnetic Island is a 20 minute boat ride away from Townsville and a wonderful tropical island to visit and spend time on.  It is home to a very active craft group that support a number of charities throughout the year.

A wonderful day was enjoyed by all of us, Possum Hollow was buzzing with chat and activity from the moment the ladies arrived to the itme they all had to run to catch the ferry home.  We all left with our bellies full of wonderful food and our heads full of inspiration.

Annual Meeting with Those Across the Sea!

Fiberians took the ferry across to Magnetic Island on Wednesday 15th June for the annual get together with the island craft group. It was their turn this year to host us.

Annette reports "It was a lovely day, too much food and talking as per normal. There were some interesting works being done by the Magnetic ladies, an amazing scarf that they have found out about. You can buy the 'wool' from Lincraft apparently and it comes with the pattern on the wrapper. Pretty amazing looking scarf.." Thank you for the photo, Annette.

Del, who is visiting Townsville from the Sunshine Coast, went along and said that she was very impressed by the number of charitable organisations which the Island group support, that the food was (as usual) sumptuous and the ladies very welcoming.

Sounds like a wonderful day was enjoyed by everyone.

The Fibres and Fabrics Christmas Party.

A most enjoyable Christmas Party was held at the Yacht Club on Wednesday, organised by Anne T. A lovely large crowd of members attended, many of whom dressed for the occasion. "N" was the theme this year and if you click on Nita's Nose below you can see a gallery of photos of many of the outfits.
Besides Nosey Nurse Nita and her Naughty arsenal of Narcissistic weapons, the proceedings were blessed by Nun, Sister Anne. We all had lots of fuN, ate well, laughed a lot and ended the year on a high Note. Next year the them will be "T" so you're forewarned and have a whole year to think about it.
Merry Christmas everyone, near and far. Hope you all have a safe, healthy and happy holiday season and that the New Year is one filled with good happenings. Thanks for visiting the blog.

Ayr Quilt Show

On Friday, 21st August, a group of very lucky Fibre-ers set off by bus and car for the Ayr Quilt Show. The exhibition of beautiful quilts and embroidery was absolutely stunning. I was so impressed by so much work of such a wonderful standard achieved by a group probably a third in number to Fibres. (Yes I know we're not all quilters and we do lots of diverse things - but it was impressive.) It was well worth the visit. After we'd had a good look and absorbed some ideas for the future from what we'd seen, we were served the most scrumptous morning tea. Then we fell into groups and set off to explore the retail and other delights of Ayr before finding places to have lunch and a chat. It was a contented and happy lot of people who travelled back home that afternoon.

Magnetic Island Visit.

As Marion covered the Post Card Party very well in the newsletter, I'm going to skip right to the Magnetic Island visit.

On Wednesday a good twenty members took the ferry over to Magnetic Island to visit the craft group there. It was my first time to do this and I can't imagine why! It would've been worth closing the shop to go. It was a most enjoyable experience. To get an overall picture of the day click once on the photo above then slideshow in the top left hand corner of the window which opens.
The Magnetic Island ladies do an impressive amount of work for charity, supporting both indigenous and overseas organisations. Besides making these items they are a very talented group in a range of crafts. It was a real treat to view their show and tell.
We were served a scrumptous lunch of soup, bread and sandwiches and an array of dessert to tempt the most hardened figure watcher. I made sure I didn't loose my own figure by piling my plate! Yum!!
