Show and Tell for 6 November

Hiya, here I am again, trying to catch up.  Here are some photos of the show and tell we had today, there wasn't very much today, we are obviously all busy working on other things.  In a little over 3 weeks we are having our annual Christmas Craft Fair, it runs for two days at the local CWA Hall, which thankfully is airconditioned, it makes such a difference to have that luxury.  Members have been busy creating items for the lucky dips for the Fair, they are the best lucky dips, 90% of the gifts are hand made and all for only $2.00.  They are a bargain..
The Fair opens at 9am on Saturday November 30 and closes Sunday December 1 at 1.30.  All welcome and it's free to enter..

Basketry

Fibres members were given a class on basketry yesterday morning by Marion G.  who is a brilliant basket maker.  We used predominantly coconut leaves, there were some that constructed in paper and some tried golden cane leaves.  Coconut leaves are most successful as they don't shrink as they dry.  Below are some of the end products.  We were making small baskets as table centres for Suzanne G. to use at a dinner party she was giving.
The first three pictures are Suzanne G working on the top of a tall basket. Grass hopper and fish made by Marion G.  The following pictures are views of completed baskets and mats.

Fibres as part of the Stitches & Craft Show

Hiya, the long weekend has been very busy with Fibres members putting up a display and then manning the display for 4 days during the Stitches & Craft show that is held at the Townsville Entertainment Centre each year.
The display was well attended and I heard that viewers were impressed with the wide range of arts that Fibres members tackle.
Below is a photo of part of the display as it was on Sunday afternoon, just before the show closed.

Wednesday 18th Show and Tell

Finally I've made it to put some words and photos up of our activities.  These been a blur of projects/meetings/workshop days lately, or so it seems to me.
Members are busily working on items for the 'lucky dip stall' that we run at our annual Christmas Craft Fair, which is on 30th November and 1 December this year.  It is held at the CWA Denham Street Hall in Townsville, entry is free and the hall is air conditioned, which is lovely at that time of year.
In two weeks members are setting up an exhibition at the Townsville Entertainment Centre as part of the annual Craft Fair, run by Expertise Events.  This event runs over 4 days and is a big affair in craft lovers calenders as well as the Fibres & Fabrics members.
Wednesday saw a good amount of show and tell, with a couple of members showing multiple items.  At the moment there is a 'red book' challenge, along with a 'house' challenge, a coat hanger challenge, a book sculpture challenge, so as you can see there's plenty to keep us busy.

Cancer Morning Tea

Hiya, we had our Cancer Morning Tea last Wednesday, organised by Anne P and Helen who did a brilliant job.  We had real teapots, a wonderful choice of eats, lovely sugar bowls and milk jugs, just like real ladies.  Each of us was asked to bring a special cup, saucer and plate with which to partake of our morning cuppa with. The tables were set beautifully with white cloths and bright throw overs, it was very nice.  Then we had a special visitor who spoke some very kind words to us, she didn't have time for a cuppa which was a shame.  The photos tell the story!.
Show and tell followed as per usual, there were some wonderful works on display.  I'm sorry but I cannot recall who's work was photographed.
