About Fibres and Fabrics

MISSION STATEMENT

Fibres & Fabrics has been established since 1975 and has won numerous awards for both its work and for providing assistance to many different sections of the local community.  It is a non-profit member based organization promoting the use of fibres and textiles in diverse art and craft fields.

It actively encourages the use and appreciation of fibres and fabrics in art and craft fields by staging exhibitions and providing meeting, educative and networking opportunities.

Ensuring traditional textile skills are maintained in the community.

OBJECTIVES

To have a successful Fibres & Fabrics Association promoting the use of fibres and fabrics in art and craft fields.

To continue to pass these skills onto anyone who would like to learn especially younger people.

To continue the current activities that the interest groups undertake in their weekly and monthly meetings.

To create and maintain a suitable venue that will become a centre of learning and creativity for fibre artists of all types.

To continue to welcome all visitors; local, interstate and international to attend our meetings and workshops and get involved in our activities.

To hold exhibitions in the galleries, public libraries of Townsville and within other public events.

To organize workshops with tutors from Australia and abroad.

To encourage entry into Australian and international fibre art competitions and exhibitions.

The continuation of its voluntary work via fundraising and the provision of items to less fortunate members of the community at large.

To maintain a textile arts and craft library and equipment available to members and visitors.

To maintain communication with other textile groups within Australia
