Dabble-in-Dyeing Day

Dabble-in-Dyeing Day

Monday 25 January
10 am – 3 pm
Venue: Joy's home

This is not a workshop as such. There will be demonstrations on dyeing yarns, fibres and fabrics (with Earth Palette dyes) and on Shibori dyeing techniques.

There will also be a limited amount of dyes for you to try (small fee applies), if you can’t bring your own. It is a day for sharing ideas, expertise, stories and laughs, and maybe for trying something new.

Call Joy for more information and for the list of things you will need to bring on the day.

Numbers will be limited, so put your name on the list at the house, or book with Joy.

Kath's Sandwich Board Project

Kath S is making a cover to rejuvenate Fibres and Fabrics' sandwich board and has inspired volunteers to each make a letter for the project. To see some of the letters which have been completed click on the photo above. I will list the album of letters among the member's galleries to the right of this post and add photos to the collection as they come in. I've missed some already, but will ask for Kath's help to catch up. Can't wait to see the finished cover. It's going to be such an interesting reflection of our member's diverse talents.

Christmas is in the Air!

Pam W has given poor old Santa a heat rash in the rush to get Christmas under way! To see photos of some of the show and tell click Santa's posterior. We had a fun day at the Wednesday social morning ending with the Bookies Group's Christmas lunch at the West End pub which was most enjoyable. Thank you Janet for organising it so successfully. The venue was cool and quiet, the food was delicious and the company was the best! Janet has a photo of the group to post and I have this photo of her taking it!

Bookies Christmas Lunch - November 25

Our end of year lunch was held at the West End Hotel. It was a lovely meal and we were seated on our own so we could make as much noise as we liked. (And yes there is that cheeky Carol taking a photo of the photographer)

A Deserving Reward for Granma's Hard Work

Do you remember the picture of Sue's completed bear? Aren't these photos of her little grand-daughter's pleasure in the bear just so heart-warming?

Embroidery Christmas Party

On Thursday 19 November among much laughter the Embroidery Group Christmas Party was held at Jessica W.'s house. Many thanks to Jessica for once again providing the venue, mixing the punch and baking the Christmas Cake.
Christine played Santa

There is nothing like the joy of unwrapping a present.

The ornament swap this year was Christmas Stockings.

Embroidery will reconvene on Thursday 18 February 2010. Everyone is welcome. For further information please contact Arlene.

Seamstress Day

Today, Thursday, was Seamstress Day. To begin with some of us met the Ingham ladies and gentleman, (Friends of Hinchinbrook) at Umbrella Gallery for morning tea. Marion gave an artist talk about the Altered Book Project, and afterwards members of Fibres and Fabrics mingled and discussed the processes that occurred in individual books. Then we went onto the House for lunch and once again with much laughter a lot was achieved.

I learned how to sew a blind hem and Val made a pumpkin bag

Anne sewing the mother of the groom outfit for Helen

Deb made sock monkeys

Kathy worked on items for her table for the Christmas Fair

Suzanne made a lid for the urn water bucket to remind everyone that it is not to be used as a slops bucket.

And

Val, Joan, Pam and Lyn supervised

Bookies Christmas Lunch

I have booked the West End Hotel on Ingham Road for Wednesday November 25 at 1.15pm in the Beer Garden. We will order off the board and they have daily specials. Remember you don't have to be a Bookie regular to attend. Just put you name on the list on the notice board at the house or ring me and let me know...Janet B.

Patchwork - November 5

On Thursday we met for patchwork. Joan B. learned how to do Crazy Patchwork.
Christine continued with embroidery stitches on her finished square.
Barb worked on a baby quilt and Val made a pumpkin bag.
Barb and I had a lot of fun playing with Anne’s fabrics, helping her lay out a colourwash quilt for the bed of her yacht.
And that is a description of just what some of the people were doing. So lots was achieved with much fun and laughter as usual. The beginnings of a timetable was discussed for next year, and it was decided that I would teach “Quilt as you go” in February and Barb would teach a lighthouse block in March. Janet B.

In conjunction with the Altered Books Exhibition at Umbrella Studio Marion G held a very successful workshop on altered books. She was assisted by members of Fibres who enjoyed themselves as much as the participants.
